It’s soup season, and I’ve got you covered with some of the best gluten-free and dairy-free soup and stew recipes to cozy up to on a cold winter’s day. This post contains affiliate links. Please see my disclosures.
Winter is here, and nothing is more comforting than a bowl of soup or stew to nourish your body and warm you from the inside out. And if you have celiac disease, gluten intolerance, and non-celiac gluten sensitivity, you know it’s important to nourish your body with easy-to-digest foods packed with wholesome ingredients.
Over the years, I’ve made a lot of soup and stews, and I hope to create more of them because they’re always delicious and a big hit in my family.
Plus, when I make soup at home, I can make it the way I like it, without gluten, dairy, and heavy cream. Many store-bought soups, even those labeled “gluten-free,” contain trace amounts of gluten and a slew of unrecognizable ingredients, not to mention unnecessary calories.
In this article, I’ll share 17+ of the best gluten-free and dairy-free soups and stews for you to cozy up to on a cold winter day.
These recipes are made without gluten, a protein found in wheat, rye, and barley, and without dairy. They’re all easy to make and require simple, wholesome ingredients. All of the following recipes are perfect for those who enjoy a nourishing and delicious warm meal regardless of dietary restrictions.
Be sure to bookmark this article and check back often, as I will be adding many more soup recipes in the near future. I even list a few of my favorite soups as coming soon below. They’re soups I make regularly but have yet to post here at Good For You Gluten Free. Don’t worry; all of the “coming soon” soups are on my to-do list. Stay tuned!

Like classic chicken noodle soup, matzo ball soup is often referred to as “Jewish penicillin.” It’s made with homemade chicken broth, shredded chicken, and, of course, delicious and salty matzo balls. I also top my matzo ball soup with fresh dill to give it a fresh and earthy overtone.

(12) Gluten-Free Kreplach
Another Jewish soup that isn’t as famous but is just as tasty as matzo ball soup is gluten-free kreplach soup. Kreplach refers to the dumpling inside the soup, which is typically filled with meat and served in a savory broth.
I use my simple two-ingredient gluten-free pasta dough to make the kreplach dough and kosher ground meat and onion for the filling.

Cholent is a Jewish stew reminiscent of beef stew; only it includes brown rice and lentils in addition to beef, potatoes, and carrots. I make beef cholent for Shabbat, and it’s always a big hit with my guests, especially gluten-free guests who rarely get to enjoy traditional cholent, which typically contains barley.

Want to Buy Soup Instead?
If you’re looking for a delicious store-bought soup that is certified gluten-free, I recommend Boulder Organic. Unfortunately, the company doesn’t have great nationwide distribution, so be sure to ask your grocery store manager to carry it.
Boulder Organic soups come in delicious flavors such as Green Chili Corn Chowder, Minestrone, Creamy Autumn Squash, Chicken Noodle, Red Lentil Dahl, Chicken Quinoa and Kale, Creamy Tomato Basil, and Potato Leek, all flavors I hope to try and make one day.
When purchasing other brands of jarred or canned soups at the grocery store, please first read about which gluten-free canned soups I tested for hidden gluten. I tested Progresso, Campbell’s, Walmart brands, and more. Not all are 100% gluten-free.
