Gluten-Free Toothpaste Guide

Curious if your toothpaste is gluten free? Looking for a list of gluten-free toothpaste brands? I researched the top brands to find out if they contain gluten. Get the full scoop in this article. Please see my disclosures.

Experts tell us to brush you teeth twice a day, but what if you can’t eat gluten? Could your toothpaste be making you sick?

If you lead a gluten-free lifestyle because you have celiac disease or gluten sensitivity, you know that even a tiny crumb of gluten can wreak havoc in even the most healthy of human bodies.

Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, rye and derivatives of those grains. It’s often hidden in surprise products that don’t look like bread, pasta or pizza, and is even found in many lip balms and makeup products.

When you have celiac disease or gluten sensitivity, you must be extra cautious about everything that crosses your lips. And while you are probably already hypervigilant about the food you eat, you might not realize that you need to be careful about what oral hygiene products you use too.

The good news is that I have found, and as you’ll see below, is that most mainstream toothpaste brands do not contain gluten. This should put your mind at ease, no doubt.

Gluten-Free Toothpastes, by Brand

While this article isn’t a definitive guide to gluten-free toothpastes, it can be used to help you decode if the toothpaste brand you use/like contains gluten.

Of course, I must add the disclaimer that ingredient lists can always change. Be sure to read ingredient and product labels carefully and when in doubt, don’t.

Below I share information direct from each toothpaste brand:

Is Aquafresh Toothpaste Gluten Free?

Aquafresh says on its website that it doesn’t contain any gluten; although it does add that the company cannot guarantee its products won’t contain trace levels of gluten due to “manufacturing processes.”

Is Crest Toothpaste Gluten Free?

Crest and Oral-B are both P&B brands. According to the FAQ on the website, neither brand contains gluten or wheat, nor does the company’s oral care plants process any gluten products.

I found this information by clicking on the Contact Us page and searching the FAQ for “gluten.”

Is Colgate Toothpaste Gluten Free?

Colgate says all its products are free from gluten. I took this screenshot from Colgate’s ingredient page.

Is Jason’s Toothpaste Gluten Free?

All of Jason’s toothpastes are labeled gluten free according to the Jason’s website.

Is Oral-B Toothpaste Gluten Free?

P&G is the parent company for both Oral-B and Crest. See Crest (above) for details.

Is Sensodyne Toothpaste Gluten Free?

Sensodyne says on its website that its products do not contain gluten but that the company “cannot exclude the presence of trace amounts of gluten in these products as a result of third-party manufacturing processes.”

Is Tom’s of Maine Gluten Free?

On the Tom’s of Maine website, the company says none of its products contain gluten.

Don’t See a Toothpaste Brand?

Drop me a line or leave a comment below to let me know the brand of toothpaste you want me to investigate for gluten.
