This week, Trader Joe’s launched Glazed Chocolate Donut Holes that are gluten-free, dairy-free, and kosher parve. Trader Joe’s shoppers are going wild for this new addition.
Last year, the no-frills grocery launched a series of excellent new gluten-free products, including Gluten-Free Break-and-Bake Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Gluten-Free Madeleine Cookies, Trader Joe’s Tagliatelle Pasta, and Gluten-Free Pumpkin Ravioli.
However, Trader Joe’s wasn’t done launching new gluten-free products, as evidenced by these shiny and sugary pop-in-your-mouth donut holes, which will definitely delight the gluten-challenged community.
As I checked out at Trader Joe’s with my four boxes of donut holes, the cashier told me that he doesn’t like gluten-free foods, but he loves these donut holes. He said they’re very popular, and they only have a limited number to put out each day, and they’re usually gone by noon.
He also told me it was a limited edition item, likely launched for Valentine’s Day, so it won’t be around for more than a couple of months. Stock up while you can!
The Ingredients
The gluten-free donut holes are made from a simple blend of tapioca starch, rice flour, and cornstarch, all gluten-free ingredients safe for people with celiac disease, non-celiac gluten sensitivities, and gluten intolerance.
You can view the complete ingredient list from this picture I snapped from the back of the donut hole packaging. The only allergen disclosed is eggs.
The Hidden Gluten Test
I decided to test the new Gluten-Free Donut Holes for hidden gluten using my trusty Nima Sensor. While I trust that Trader Joe’s products are gluten-free when labeled gluten-free, many of you are still skeptical.
I want to put your mind at ease because every gluten-free-labeled item I’ve tested at Trader Joe’s has tested a-okay. I’ll still test the donut holes to help put your mind at ease.
As you can see, these pretty donut holes don’t contain gluten, as evidenced by Nima’s smile, which means no gluten was found.
You can learn more about Nima in my article, What You Need to Know About Nima Sensor Before You Buy – Perspective from a Celiac & Nutrition Professional.
The Taste Test
I also had the pleasure of taste-testing the new Gluten-Free Chocolate Donut Holes. I found them ultra-moist, not dry and crumbly like many gluten-free baked goods. I loved the sweet glaze that coated each donut hole.
Each package contains about 20 donut holes and costs $3.49. They are perfect for sharing with your family or at the office, but they go fast. I could pop a full donut hole in my mouth with no problem.
I probably would have eaten this entire package in one sitting if my conscience hadn’t encouraged me to savor them over time.
Donut Take My Word For It
If you live near Trader Joe’s, grab a few packages. As the clerk told me, they sell out fast, so consider calling ahead to ensure they’re in stock.

Why have theses delicious chocolate donut holes been pulled off the shelves at Trader Joe’s? When will he be back on the shelves?
Good For You Gluten Free says
I haven’t done a side by side comparison but a lot of people are saying they’re similar.
Tiffany P. says
Curious how do these compare to Katz donut holes taste wise?
Shari says
Unfortunately, these donuts have Palm Oil, I can’t have that or any type of seed oils. I would buy it in a flash if Avocado, coconut, or olive oil was used instead.
Terri says
You had me sold until I saw cornstarch. 🙁
