Add the beef, potatoes, carrots, garlic cloves, lentils (soaked, drained and rinsed), brown rice, spices and broth/water to your slow cooker. Mix all the ingredients together with a large spoon.
Cover your slow cooker and set it to cook on its lowest setting.
Notes
Beef Stew Meat:You can find kosher stew meat at some Trader Joe's or at a kosher grocery store. Alternatively, you can just use regular beef stew meat (not kosher).Lentils:To improve the digestion of the lentils, you'll want to soak them in water for 24 hours prior to adding them to your slow cooker. Rinse them well before adding them to your slow cooker. A 24-HOUR SOAKING IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.Broth or Water:You want to add enough broth or water so that it just covers all the ingredients in your slow cooker. You may need to add more broth or water depending on how your ingredients fit in the slow cooker. The important thing is that you cover it all with the water or the broth so your ingredients don't stick to the sides and bottom and nothing burns.Be sure to use kosher chicken broth, or alternatively, I use water and 3 tbsp of kosher chicken soup flavoring, which is labeled gluten free. You can use water combined with boullion to get the desired flavor.Seasonings: I love to add tons of seasonings to my cholent. Have fun with the seasonings and add plenty of them to really spice up the meal. You can see why the cholent tastes different every week!Store leftover cholent in a sealed container in your fridge. Simply reheat in your microwave. When hosting guests, add extra beef, potatoes and carrots to your cholent. Be sure to adjust seasonings and don't forget to cover it fully with water!
