I always say Chinese food is my favorite food group, and I love recreating delicious Chinese food at home where I know it's gluten free and safe for me to eat. I love black pepper beef, but I rarely make beef dishes at home. Instead, I created this deliciously-spiced black pepper sauce and served it over ground turkey, bell peppers and onions. This savory dish is a homerun every time I make it!

Fresh ground pepperto taste
Scallionschopped (for garnish)
Instructions
Combine soy sauce (tamari), water, rice wine vinegar, hoisin, sesame oil, cornstarch, fresh ginger, garlic and crushed red pepper flakes in a small bowl and mix well. Set aside.
Heat oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add onions to hot oil and stir, occasionally, for two minutes, until soft.
Add ground turkey (beef or chicken) to hot pan and cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, and until the meat is cooked through (no pink).
Add bell peppers and continue to cook for another minute.
Mix sauce well and add to turkey mixture, scraping the sides to get off all the brown bits. Lower heat to medium and cook until sauce slightly thickens and is heated. If the sauce is too thick, add a bit more water to the mix.
Add plenty of fresh ground pepper to the mixture, to taste, and top with chopped scallions (optional). Serve with brown or white rice.
Notes
You can find gluten-free hoisin sauce at many national supermarkets, or online on Amazon. Kikkoman, San-J and Lee Kum Kee all make GF hoisin sauce.I used ground turkey for this recipe, but you could use ground beef or chicken. You could also use slices of beef or chicken, although I do enjoy the ease of cooking with ground meats. While black pepper sauce is known for its peppery flair, I suggest you adjust the amount of black pepper in the recipe to your taste. I like lots of pepper, but I realize most people just want a little.
