Vegetable oil (enough to fill a 2-quart heavy pan with 2-3 inches of oil)

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 and 1/4 cups of Bisquick gluten-free mix

1/4 cup packed brown sugar

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

2 tablespoons butter, melted

1/3 cup buttermilk (or use 1/3 cup milk + 1 teaspoon distilled white vinegar, let stand for 5 minutes)

1 egg, beaten

Prepare oil in pan, heat to 375 degrees.

In a shallow bowl mix sugar and cinnamon, set aside

In a large bowl, add all the other ingredients and mix until well blend.

Form small 1 inch balls of dough (about 12)

Drop the balls (without over crowding, work in batches if needed) in the hot oil. Oil will sizzle upon contact. Allow dough ball to cook for 1-2 minutes until golden brown on all sides. Use your cooking tongs to flip the balls, if needed.

Remove doughnuts to paper towels to drain, then immediately roll in cinnamon-sugar mix. Enjoy!
