This morning I got an interesting email from my favorite lipstick and cosmetics company, Red Apple Lipstick. The company reminded me of the practice of “pinkwashing.” This is where a company donates proceeds to breast cancer research and is a form of cause marketing.
However, if you take a close look at many of these so-called breast cancer research supporters, you’ll find that they are selling products with ingredients known to cause cancer in the first place!
If you see a product with a pink ribbon around it, which typically signifies Breast Cancer Awareness Month, make sure you take a close look at the ingredients. Does it contain any of these known cancer-causing ingredients?
- Aluminum (in antiperspirants)
If these products contain any of these ingredients, you should think long and hard about whether or not that company really cares about the breast cancer community, or if they’re just trying to market their products regardless if they contain known cancer-causing ingredients.
Remember, every time you purchase a product, you are voting with your dollars.
Instead of worrying about whether or not proceeds from sales go to a breast cancer research organization, instead look for clean ingredients that deter cancer in the first place.
Enter Red Apple Lipstick. This company is the real deal and you won’t find toxic, cancer-causing ingredients in any of their products.
This year, the cosmetics company is donating five percent of its October sales to the Dr. Susan Love’s Research Foundation. This organization utilizes funds for actual program operations vs. board member salaries or other arbitrary expenses. As Red Apple Lipstick said in an email today, “Dr. Love focuses on prevention research and eliminating cancer.” Now that is something we really understand – a future without breast cancer in the first place!
I hope you take advantage of this discount and feel good knowing that Red Apple Lipstick is looking out for your health interests.
There’s no pinkwashing here.
Red Apple Lipstick makes clean products free from parabens, lead and toxic chemicals. And, on top of it all, it’s all totally gluten-free too – yay!
