It might seem hard to not only find gluten-free Halloween candy alternatives, but also to find Halloween candy that is made with clean, better for you ingredients too.
I used to love Halloween as a child. I loved dressing up and trick-or-treating with my brother. We’d collect SO MUCH candy and then come home and sort our lot. We’d trade our candies and hoard it like our most prized possessions.
Today, however, Halloween doesn’t have the same appeal.
For starters, as a mother, I hate the idea of my children going door-to-door asking for candy. However, what I hate more is that the candy they collect is full of cheap, artificial and bad-for-you ingredients. Yuk!
On top of that, as someone with celiac disease, I’m discouraged that so many of the candies contain gluten. Some of the candies contain hidden gluten, like licorice. Yep, licorice is made from wheat flour – go figure! I really hate having all that gluten-y, cheap and bad-for-you candy in my house.
But the Halloween holiday calls for candy, so, I, like most mothers, concede.
I’m guilty of buying a big bag of fun-size candy to hand out each year. No kid wants raisins or pennies anymore – and I know the kids don’t need more pencils or erasers or other junk that fills our landfill. It’s just easier to hand out the fun-size candies you can find at any grocery store in America.
But if you’re able to to hand out better-for-you treats this year, kudos to you. It’s definitely a goal of mine to do – and each year we inch closer to making this a reality.
Here are a list of of gluten-free Halloween candy alternatives that also offer up better ingredients than the mainstream stuff. Warning, these treats cost more money… but maybe if we all spoke with our wallets our children would be better of?

If you need to limit your kids’ candy consumption, whether for health or allergy reasons (or you’re just being a good parent by helping your kids make better choices), consider calling upon the Switch Witch, where you switch your kids candy for a gift. I saw the founders of the company on Shark Tank and while they didn’t get a deal, they did come up with a brilliant way to get your kids to enjoy Halloween without consuming all the calories, sugar and artificial ingredients.
