My current obsession surrounds the craze of cup-for-cup gluten free flour blends. I am not the kind of person who has time to make her own flour blends, nor do I bake often enough to make it worth my time. A few weeks ago I was in Whole Foods and noticed a new, local flour blend called Bella Gluten Free. It markets itself as a cup-for-cup flour substitution, which means you can use all your favorite baked goods recipes and not have to make some strange gluten-free concoction of a recipe. I’m in!
Bella also offers one of the most allergen friendly, cup-for-cup flours I’ve seen. Just look at this label – it’s made with various rice flours – there is no corn, soy, milk, eggs, or other common allergens. This is the perfect blend for someone who suffers from multiple food allergies or intolerances – not just gluten.
Also, I love how Bella showcases its founder, Mary Capone, who has Celiac disease, on its packaging. I found additional insights about the brand on the Bella website, including that Capone is the mother of Celiac children and a cookbook author!
I would agree that the flour has a light texture and doesn’t have a grit-like taste. I used the flour to make a yummy gluten free lemon bar recipe – and the recipe was a success!
I am excited to support this Colorado company and try many more recipes using this flour blend, which I will document on this blog… of course!
