On Mother’s Day my family took me for brunch at 730 South in Cherry Creek (located at 730 South University Blvd. in the Bonnie Brae neighborhood). The gluten-free menu online looked great, so I was excited to eat there.
Upon arriving, I requested a gluten-free menu and the waiter gave me one. It had so many goodies on it – from all sorts of omelets, salads, sandwiches and pasta dishes. It was going to be hard to decide what to order – so many good items to choose from!
When I told the waiter about my Celiac disease, she assured me that everything would be prepared safely for me. She said the owner’s wife wife has Celiac and they take GF orders very seriously. They get their pastas and breads from the Sweet Escape Bakery in Longmont, and everything has been taste tested by the owner’s wife and is certified GF.
My husband, who is gluten-free as well (by choice), said he’d like to try two dishes, one from the breakfast menu and one from the lunch menu, so we decided to share. I have the best husband.
We ordered the Popeye Omelet (pictured below) made with egg whites, spinach and pico de gallo served with fresh fruit (it also came with a delicious GF roll), and Larry’s Penne, a gluten-free pasta dish made with grilled chicken, sun-dried tomatoes, fresh tomatoes, olive oil, basil and garlic (pictured above).
When both dishes arrived, no one at my table could believe they were gluten-free. The Popeye Omelet had a huge bread roll on it, and the pasta was alive and fluffy. None of it looked gluten-free so I asked my waiter to confirm and she said it was gluten-free for certain. They don’t mess around with allergies.
The food was simply amazing. I’d order both dishes again… but in all honestly, the pasta dish won me over. The pasta was soft and delicious – it didn’t taste anything like the traditional GF pastas I usually choke down – and the sauce and veggies were bursting with Italian flavors. I used the bread from the Popeye’s Omelet to soak up all the extra sauce on Larry’s Penne dish.
If you’re visiting Denver and want a Celiac safe place to enjoy some delicious gluten-free brunch, lunch or dinner (even perfect for date night!), I highly recommend 730 South. They will take care of you – and you won’t get sick!
Overall, it was a great Mother’s Day. Here’s a family photo we snapped at brunch – one happy family indeed!
